How Much Bigger Is A Yorkie Compared To A Mini Yorkie?

I want to get a dog but where I live, I have to have a small dog. I’ve always loved Yorkies and know where I can adopt one. The only thing is, I’ve only seen Mini-Yorkies in real life. How much bigger is a yorkie compared to a mini yorkie?
I feel a little stupid…I just read that they are the same? Is that true?

There is no such thing – Yorkies are up to 7 lbs by the breed standard. Smaller ones are just runts or dogs that happen to be smaller.

They’re the cute little dogs you’ve always loved.

EDIT: They are the same, yes. :)

Don’t buy a so called "mini or "teacup" , they have several health problems & don’t live long. Get a regular size yorkie most weigh 4 to 7lbs. They are still plenty small & a lot healthier.

"Mini" is not official anything. It can mean many things to different people.

If you mean a mini-yorkie is under 4 lbs, then just get a yorkie who’s parents were larger than that. The breed standard according to the AKC is anything under 7 pounds.

A good breeder should be able to show you the puppy’s parents.

Good luck with your new pup!

Teacups, mini (yorkies), Royal or Warlock are all words to trap suckers into buying dogs that are the wrong size for their breed. So called teacups are runts which usually have health problems and short lives. Royal and Warlock are dogs that are oversized for their breed and are worthless for breeding and often have bad hips. So called rare colors are also usually colors of dogs that are not right for the breed, White Dobes, White, blue or liver GSDs or parti colored Poodles. Every registered real breed has a breed standard and the size, color, coat etc are all set out. Dogs not conforming to the standard for the breed are of not breeding quality and should be sold as neutered pets. Many off colored dogs have severe health problems and no reputable breeder would breed a dog that produces them.
