How often should I bathe Yorkie that is 4 months old?

My mom obsesses over giving our Yorkie baths. The vet says to give him a bath once every month… I think we might give him a bath once every week or so. Is that unhealthy, and if so, how often should we bathe him? Thanks!
Haha, thank you guys, that really helped. And yes, I will tell my mom. ;)

Yes once a week is to often, about every 6-8 weeks with daily brushing is enough. If your dog is a roller and rolls in other dog pe and poo or dead animals then it is warranted to bathe more often.
By bathing them every week takes all the natural oils out of their skin and hair. Causing dander and dry brittle hair, and a itchy miserable little dog.

At most your dog, any dog, should be only getting a bath every 3 months or so. If he gets dirty just rinse him with water besides that. Any more baths can do damage to his coat and skin.

It’s not good to over bathe a dog. It irritates their skin and strips the hair of essential oils.
I agree with your vet, a dog should not be bathed more than once a month.
Once every 3-4 months is ideal.
If your mom doesn’t like the way the dog smells, buy some doggie cologne.

Dogs skin are not like humans. If you bathe them too much, it will damage the dogs skin. I only give my dog (she is 4, so she isn’t a puppy) a bath 2 or 3 times a month, along with the 2 puppies. Tell your mom not to bathe them to often, if they get dirty just rinse them off. :)

Don’t over bath any dog – I bath my younger dog before shows and my older dog once or twice a year. With a coated breed you must also make sure the dog is totally dry or he could end up with wet eczema – a friends Cairn Terrier had this problem and was having weekly baths.

once a month is just fine, you can use dawn soap only the blue original kind though because it kills fleas (only fleas it does not repel any type of bug) still maintain their monthly flea/tick and heartworm medicine. I use advantage multi and its great.

that’s really bad actually, usually you should not even bathe a 4 month old dog because they get cold after a bath and their immune system isn’t built up enough yet to fight off a cold.
i would suggest once ever month, because of yorkies hair they need to be given bath more often then other dogs but until the dog is about 7 months old you should wrap them in a blanket after giving a bath until he is completely. because of the type of hair yorkies have it is even fully safe to blow dry their hair.
    hope this helps (:
